Google offers a free web hosting site called Google Sites. It's fairly easy to use Google Sites and of course it just as easy to place an ad on the page. In fact I have about three separate web site out there. My Google Sites page is located here: Engineering SiteMap
Google also offers a free blogger called Google Blogger, and you can run ads on blogger at no cost. I use both of these free services ~ at no cost. My Google blogger site is located here: Engineering Topics.
Google also started Google Knols, which is more a web page or collection of web pages that also allow you to run ads. Here is one of those pages; IC Generated Noise.
Office Live [MicroSoft] offers a free web site and web address for one year, but does not accept java script.
