2N3441 Temperature-Power Derating Curve
NPN Medium Power Transistor. Package, TO-66.
2N3441 Applications; General purpose Switching and linear amplifiers

2N3441 Temperature Derating Curve
Use the Graph to determine the maximum power dissipation based on ambient temperature. The maximum wattage of 3 Watts occurs at 250C and begins to fall off above 300C. The 2N3441 may be derated by this formula above 25C; 0.142W/0C. Both the derating curves and the equation apply to the TO-66 package in free-air.
Attach the TO-66 metal package to a metal surface or heat sink when possible to operate at higher temperatures with higher power dissipations.
Refer to MIL-PRF-19500/369F; Semiconductor Device, Transistor, NPN, Silicon, Power, Type 2N3441, JAN, JANTX, and JANTXV, [TO-66]

How to Derate; Guideline for Derating Electronic Components
Temperature derating is a common design practice for electrical engineers.
Use the graph by selecting a junction temperature for the 2N3441. Draw a line from the selected temperature, parallel to one of the curves. The line intersecting 110C is the most desirable operating point, do not exceed the operating line terminating at 200C.
