2N2432 Temperature-Power Derating Chart
2N2432 Transistor Power Derating Curves

Derate linearly 2.0 mW/0C above +250C Ta [Temperature Ambient]
Derate linearly 4.0 mW/0C above +250C Tc [Temperature Case]

Use the Graph to determine how much to reduce operating power [wattage] based on ambient operational temperature. Installing a heat sink or supplying forced air cooling are 2 methods to increase the 2N2432 operational temperature range with out the need to derate.

Note; Top curve is thermal runaway and cannot be used as a derate design curve since it exceeds the maximum ratings for the 2N2432. Operating under this curve using these mounting conditions assures the 2N2432 will not have a thermal runaway. This is the true inverse of the worst case thermal resistance value extrapolated out to the thermal runaway point. The next lower black curve is maximum junction temperature. Most designs should use or be parallel with one of the gray curves. For more detail refer to How to Interpret Derating Curves.

2N2432 Maximum Ratings:
Collector Emitter Voltage = 30 volts dc [Vceo]
Emitter Collector Voltage = 15 volts dc [Veco]
Collector Base Voltage = 30 volts dc [Vcbo]
Collector Current = 100mA dc [Ic]
Power Dissipation 250C = 260mW [Still Air]
Operating Temperature = -65 to +2000C

2N2432 SMD Package

The specification also calls out a surface mount version, the 2N2432UB. The suffix UB defining the surface mount version. The package is a four terminal leadless component; however tab 4 is just a shielding connection to the metal lid. The other terminals include; Pad 1 = Base, Pad 2 = Emitter, Pad 3 = Collector. The SMD package size is 3.25 x 2.74mm.

The electrical specifications are the same as shown above for the leaded 2N2432 transistor. The real difference is with the derating curve, which is not shown because of lack of interest in the package style.

All four curves start at 355mW. The maximum junction temperature starts to fall at 165 and stops at 200 degrees centigrade. The standard curve used to define the electrical measurements, which resides just below the upper limit curve begins to fall at 115C and terminates at 150C. The two recommended operating points start to drop at 75C and 85C and terminate at 110C and 125C.
