TO-63 Case Package
TO-63 Package Drawing

The TO-63 package is a through-hole case mount device. 10-32 threads.
Yet another type of component that connects to the circuit by flexible wire, or wire leads. One example of a component that uses the TO-63 style package is a 2N3846 Transistor. However as of 1996 JEDEC considers the TO-63 case outline inactive for use and has removed the designation, so few devices manufactured after that date will use this package designation.
Like all the similar stud mount styles, the TO-63 uses a threaded stud as indicated in the graphic [0.312-24].

Case mount. Also called a Bolt-Mount package or Stud Mount package. A type of package which provides a method of readily attaching one surface of the semiconductor device to a heat sink, like a metal case or chassis, to achieve thermal management of the case temperature. The collector (hook) is electrically connected to the case. The other two terminals are electrically isolated from the case.
Same style as a TO-59 Transistor case, or TO-61 Transistor case.

Terminal Leads; Lead 1 Emitter, Lead 2 Base, Lead 3 Collector.
Note that terminal one is a wire hook, while terminals 2 and 3 are tabs. The wires used to attach the terminals to the circuit should be considered in the design; using the largest wire possible.

Power NPN Transistors that use the TO-63 package include; 2N3846, and 2N3847.
NPN Transistors in a TO-63 package include; 2N4002, 2N4003, 2N5331, 2N5560, 2N5584, 2N5733, 2N6272, 2N6273, 2N6324, and 2N6325.
A FET using the TO-63 package is also possible, but not yet listed here.
