IC Decoder Chips

This decoder IC receives two signal bit inputs and output four separate output lines. The two bit input will cycle from 00 to 01, 10 and 11, which will produce four individual outputs. Each output data set will only have a single high for each output; 0001, 0010, 0100 and 1000.

The 7400 series of parts represent the commercial temperature range. A 5400 part would be the identical function but be able to operate over the military temperature range. No 54139 parts are shown, but the part numbers could be identical, except for the first two numbers. The 74xx series of parts are listed just to show the generic part number and the common name for the part. Refer to this link for the Differences between Commercial and Military components. For example the function of a 74HC139 and a 54HC139 would be identical, with the only difference being the operating temperature range of the part. However different packaging options are available, so a 74HC139 might only be produced in a plastic package, while a 54HC139 might only be produced in a ceramic package. A DIP package would be common for either component, regardless of the material the body of the IC is made of.
