EEPROM - Memory Manufacturers

PROM:........Programmable Read Only Memory
EPROM:....Erasable PROM
EEPROM:..Electrically Erasable PROM

EEPROM: or an Electrically Erasable PROM is the same as an EPROM except that an EEPROM may be erased via an electric field, hence the term Electrically Erasable. Because these devices are erased via a voltage and not light they do not require a window like EPROMs do. How ever there is another type of EPROM that does not have a window; One Time Programmable EPROMs [OTP]. OTP EPROMs are meant to be programmed only once so do not require a window to be erased. A Flash EPROM is about the same as an EEPROM but does not require an addition special voltage to be erased, and may be erased all at once and not on a byte bases.
