I2S Bus (IIS, or I2S) is a serial bus
designed for digital audio devices. The I2S design handles audio data
separately from clock signals. An I2S bus design consists of three
serial bus lines: a line with two time-division multiplexing (TDM)
data channels [SD], a word select line [WS], and a
clock line [SCK]. |
This interface seems to still be in wide spread use by NXP [Philips] on a number of devices as of 2007.
Comprehensive list of IC-to-IC Buses.
Use the Buses icon below for a complete list of Interface Buses.
Although I2S protocol is not discussed here there are a few notations;
Data may be sent either with the Most Significant Bit first or the Least Significant Bit first
The timing diagram shows that the Left channel is sent before the right channel for a stereo signal.
Note that NXP was the Semiconductor Division of Philips which was spun off in 2006 into a separate company.
In relation to that company change this site also provides a short Status of Semiconductor Companies.
The Interconnect Topology seems to be a common bus or stub interconnect.
