BNC to BNC Adapter

An BNC adapter is a connector with electrical contacts which provides facilities for joining two or more electrical connectors, whose design or function will not normally warrant their junction. It is not designed for permanent attachment to a cable, cord, coaxial line, or wire.

A Male connector could be called either a Male, a Pin, or a Plug type. In this case the military specification which defines this style uses the term Plug and Pin. The standard also defines a 50 ohm connector with a frequency range of 4GHz.

This style also goes by BNCMM, for BNC, Male-to-Male.

A Female connector could be called either a Female, a Socket, or a Jack style. In this particular case the military specification which defines this style uses the term Jack and Socket. This style is also commonly called a barrel, because of the shape.

Either of these adapters might also be found as panel mount or bulkhead connectors, which would than have either a jam nut or mounting plate. All of these connectors would be considered as straight, as none of them are shown as right angle bend for example. These are also called In-Series Adapters, because both ends of the interface uses BNC connectors, or connectors of the same series.

A BNC adapter, could in fact have any type of connector on one end of the connector, although this page only deals with BNC to BNC adapters, or connectors with BNC interfaces on each side of the connector, also called In-Series Adapters. There could be a great number of different styles when taking into account another style on one side of the connector.
