This is a listing of Equipment Enclosures and Chassis
manufacturers. The types of products or equipment they produce are listed
under the company name, with supported architectures, in alphabetic order. There are a number of terms,
which all mean the same thing, used to describe an electronic enclosure
which hold circuit cards: Case, Chassis, Crate, Mainframe, and Enclosure.
The enclosures may also be sub-divided into Rack-Mount, Wall-mount,
Tower, or table-top; Commercial, Industrial, Rugged, or Military. A
Sub-rack is not a complete electronic enclosure and may only include a
metal frame and a card cage. A Card Cage has no enclosure at all and is
just a frame [with card guides] to support the particular CCA form factor
used.
If the Chassis is produced for a particular card form factor, for example
cPCI, then you can also check that
particular BUS page for more data or the
COTS card vendors page for a listing of
CCA manufacturers.

{Electronic Equipment Enclosure and Chassis Manufacturers Index}
Compact PCI [cPCI] Chassis will be between 1 and 8 slots (the
maximum). Compact PCI [cPCI] cards are spaced on 0.8 inch centers.
The cPCI chassis may except 3U cards, or 3U and 6U cards. The chassis may
have a separate card cage to handle the 3U cards.
The cPCI chassis shall provide a +5 volt, +/- 12 volt and a 3.3 volt supply
@ maximum ripple 50mV. I believe the Telcom cPCI version provides 48
volts as the system power.
The Compact PCI [cPCI] backplane is passive. The bus requires one card
acting as the systems controller residing at either end of the back-plane
(chassis), termed the System Slot. The remaining cards (slots) are termed
the Peripheral Slots. The chassis may be a table-top or rack-mount.
In CompactPCI [cPCI], the system slot may reside in any slot of the back
plane with the other 7 slots as peripheral cards. In PXI, the left most slot is the system slot
followed on the right by 7 peripheral slots. In addition, 3 other slots,
with do not contain back plane connectors may reside to the left of the
system slot. These additional 3 slots provide expansion (wider card) for
the system card.
Refer to the cPCI Design Information page for
more background data.

Note: A cPCI chassis could be the exact same size as a PXI or VME chassis.
Now listed on the PC Case
manufacturers page. Personal Computer Case Sizes: XT, AT, Mini-AT,
ATX, Desktop, Tower, Full Tower, Slim Tower.
ATX Desktop; 430mm [wide], 170mm [High] x 460mm [deep]
MicroATX; 5.35" x 13.78" x 13.58"
BTX AV Style; 17" x 4" x 15.5" [Audio Visual Style]
BTX Office Style; 8" x 16.8" x 17.5" [Desk Top Style]. Also Refer

{Electronic Equipment Enclosure Index}
A VME Chassis will be between 1 and 21 slots (the maximum). Care
should be taken producing a 21 slot chassis, with the addition of slide
rails the width may exceed a standard 19" [EIA-310] rack. A backplane
will start with 2 slots, one slot has no value.
The VMEbus chassis may except 3U cards, or 3U and 6U cards, and now 9U
cards. The chassis may have a separate card cage to handle the 3U cards.
The chassis only need provide the P1 side of the back plane when only 3U
cards are used. 6U cards require both P1 and P2, and 9U would require the
P1, P2, and P3. A P0 connector (between P1 and P2) for 6U cards may also
be provided. Regardless of the size of the card the chassis will accept
(3U, 6U, or 9U) all the slots are on .8" centers. The chassis may be a
table-top or rack-mount.
VME32 provided a +5volt,and +/-12volt supply; VME64 added a 3.3volt
supply. The 5 volt supply should provide only 50mV of ripple. No currently
produced power supply meets 50mV, I've seen notes on the web indicating
an attempt to update this number.
This listing has been moved to VME Equipment Chassis Manufacturers. Refer to VME Bus Description
Now listed on the VXI chassis Manufacturers page. Refer here for more VXI Bus Design Information.
A VXI [(VME eXtensions for Instrumentation] Chassis will have
between 1 and 13 slots
VXI Chassis Terms:
"A-size" mainframe: Provides J1 only {mandatory}, allows for the
insertion of an A-size module only.
"B-size" mainframe: Provides J1 {mandatory}, J2 {optional}, allows for
the insertion of a B-size module.
"C-size" mainframe: Provides J1 {mandatory}, J2 {optional}, allows for
the insertion of a C-size module.
"D-size" mainframe: Provides J1 {mandatory}, J2 and J3{optional}, allows
for the insertion of a D-size module.
The VXIbus chassis may except 3U cards, or 3U and 6U cards, or 9U cards.
The chassis may have a separate card cage to handle the 3U cards or 6U.
The chassis only need provide the P1 side of the back plane when only 3U

P1, P2, and P3. A P0 connector (between P1 and P2) for 6U cards may also
be provided. Regardless of the size of the card the chassis will accept
(3U, 6U, or 9U) all the slots are on .8" centers. The chassis may be a
table-top or rack-mount.
