There are other chip styles; Low inductance Chip Capacitors

The physical size for chip resistors and capacitors is shown in the graphic above. The standard EIA component designations are shown under the type heading. The common values for capacitors or standard wattage size for resistors are shown for each EIA component type. The smaller the physical part, the lower the inductance. Pick the smallest possible package size which still meets the design criteria. The table provides dimensions in mm, the 'Type' is the English designation. The 'type' used above are different for metric designations. Also, there is an additional designation for Tantalum capacitors [shown above]. Case codes include:
