Analog Voltage Regulators are DC-to-DC Converters that regulate their output with out regard to the load attached [to a point]
VRM: Voltage Regulator Module. Intel has standards which define
DC-to-DC converter modules for their microprocessors.
The current standard / Design guideline is VRM 9.1. The standard
defines a board size, pinout, output voltage/current, operation and
more.
LDO: Low DropOut regulators reduce the difference between Input
voltage [Vi], and Output voltage [Vo].
An LDO regulator will allow for less then a 1 volt difference between
Input and Output voltages and still function.
